Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Herring Curing.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the number of barrels of herring cured, and (2) the amount cured at each port, in the latest statistics available.

On the information available to my Department, 5,570 whole barrels and 125 half barrels of herring were cured in the year ended 31st March, 1957. Of these 3,400 whole barrels were cured at Dunmore East, County Waterford, and the remainder at Gortnasate, County Donegal. In addition, 1,500 whole barrels of marinated herring fillets and 438 whole barrels of cured herring fillets were produced in the same period at Burton-port and Killybegs, County Donegal, respectively.
