Vol. 161 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of butter which he estimates will be exported during the year 1957.

Exports of creamery butter produced during the year ended 30th April, 1957, which have already taken place, or are expected to take place, during the calendar year, 1957, will amount to about 6,500 tons. Exports before 31st December next of butter produced from 1st May, 1957, onwards will depend on the production and marketing situation from time to time, and it is, accordingly, too early to give an estimate of the total exports of butter during the calendar year 1957.

Would the Minister indicate the extent to which the situation will be aggravated by the reports in to-day's papers of the reduced consumption in butter in consequence of the increase in price?

What paper was that in?
