Vol. 161 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Tipperary Land Reclamation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture how the amount of grant moneys approved from 1st June, 1956, to date for North Tipperary compares with that for a district of similar size having one district officer and five supervisors.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the total cost of administering the land reclamation scheme in North Tipperary from 1st June, 1956, to date.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount approved by the Nenagh office in grants for land reclamation in North Tipperary from 1st June, 1956, to date.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 9 to 11 together.

The Deputy is no doubt aware that statistical returns by county regarding the operation of the land reclamation schemes are circulated quarterly to Dáil Deputies. The most recent return was circulated on 8th May, 1957. As has already been indicated in replies to previous similar questions, the provision at more frequent intervals of special statistics on the lines asked for in the Deputy's questions would entail an expenditure of official time which would not be justified.

It is not the practice to compile statistics for parts of counties, but, in any event, I consider that it would be undesirable to make public comparison as to the output of work in different districts, particularly having regard to the varied nature of the work undertaken. I can assure the Deputy, however, that progress of the work in all districts, including North Tipperary, is kept under review as necessary.

Could we have any indication as to when the Minister for Agriculture will appear to answer questions in this House?
