Vol. 162 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glenamaddy Vocational School.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received proposals from County Galway Vocational Education Committee for the provision of a vocational school in Glenamaddy, and, if so, what steps will be taken to expedite sanction for the proposals in view of the absence of any post-primary educational facilities in this thriving rural area which has a large school-going population.

My Department has received a proposal from the County Galway Vocational Education Committee for the provision of a vocational school at Glenamaddy. As the Deputy is aware, the committee was advised in November, 1956 that, on account of financial limitations, it had been found necessary to defer approval of further building projects for the time being. I am not yet in a position to say what building projects may be authorised in the coming financial year but when these are being determined the proposals of the County Galway committee will receive due consideration.
