Vol. 162 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Domestic Servants' Registries.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of female domestic servants' registries in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Galway; and if sufficient inspections are carried out by the local authorities concerned to ensure that the business of the registries is in accordance with the by-laws made under Section 85 of the Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1907.

The figures sought are not available in my Department but the Deputy may be able to obtain them, in respect of Dublin and Cork at any rate, by inquiry from the local authorities concerned. As far as I am aware, however, Section 85 of the Act of 1907 is not in force in Limerick or Galway.

The enforcement of by-laws made under Section 85 is a matter for the local authority. I have no information about the standard of enforcement of these by-laws and I have no function in the matter.
