Vol. 162 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Woollen Mills.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has made any inquiries as to the cause of the cessation of work at the Kilkenny Woollen Mills (1929) Limited, and, if so, with what result; and what steps he has taken to provide employments for the skilled workers concerned.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I am not, however, in a position to make any statement about the affairs of the firm referred to, which is a private, commercial concern.

Do I understand from the Minister's reply that he does not propose to take any steps to deal with the employment part of the question?

I am not responsible for what the Deputy may wish to understand from my reply.

Is the Minister going to take any steps to provide employment in this case?

It is a public knowledge that the mills closed down because of a trade dispute.
