Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - “Portrait of Dublin”

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether the Cultural Relations Committee conmmissioned a film,"Portrait of Dubline", and, if so, (a) what moneys were made available for this production, and (b) whether the film has been, or is to be, made available for public showing to cultural organisation and to the National Film Institute, and, if not, why not.

The film "Portriat of Dublin" was commissioned by the Cultural Relations Committee in 1950 and completed in 1952. The total expenditure involved was £1,672 os. When the committee, they were of the unanimous opinion that it was not suitable for distribution by them. The question of revising the film has been under consideration but, in the absence of appropriate funds, this has had to be postponed.

Is the Minister in a position to say why the film was unsuitable for circulation?

The film was commissioned by the Cultural Relations Committee in 1950 and when it was finally completed they decided that it was not suitable for distribution by them.
