Vol. 162 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Muriate of Potash.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his Department have been requested by the Waterford County Committee of Agriculture to investigate the reported import of Russian muriate of potash, described as of German origin for customs purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Moylan

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, but I am aware that the Waterford County Committee of Agriculture, at a meeting on the 16th March last, passed a resolution expressing the view that further importation of Russian potash should be prohibited. There is no import control on potash, and the sources from which supplies are obtained are therefore, a matter for the importers directly concerned. Any question of the misdesription of imports for customs purposes would be on for investigation by the Revenue Commissioners.
