Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities' Capital Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how the figure of £12.67 million, given in Table II in connection with the Financial Statement in respect of capital expenditure by local authorities in 1956-57, is made up.

The expenditure of £12.67 million is estimated as follows:—

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the expenditure out of the Capital Budget for (a) housing, and (b) sanitary services in 1956-57, and the estimated expenditure in 1957-58, distinguishing between expenditure out of voted capital services and issues from the Local Loans Fund.

As the reply contains tabular matter, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

*This sum, which covers the total estimated capital requirements of Dublin and Cork Corporations, provides for miscellaneous minor services as well as for housing and sanitary services.

NOTES:

(1) In 1956/57, it is estimated that local authorities financed from non-Exchequer sources further capital expenditure on housing and sanitary services amounting to approximately £1,500,000

(2) The estimates for 1957/58 allow for the effect of recent Government decisions.
