Vol. 162 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Insurance of Share Fisherman.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the recent Circuit Court decision compelling skippers of fishing boats to pay the employment insurance contributions for share fishermen, he will introduce legislation to exempt the skippers from such payments.

I do not propose to introduce legislation for the purpose indicated in the Deputy's question.

In view of the fact that the skipper is an employee on an equal basis with other members of the crew, surely he is entitled to have his cards stamped also. By whom?

He has the biggest part of the share.

If he has not, if he has an equal share, would the Parliamentary Secretary still compel him to stamp the cards of the other members of the crew?
