Vol. 162 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Forestry Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has received offers of land for forestry purposes from the owners of 280 acres in Ballaverty, Castletowncooley and Earl's Quarter; whether he is aware that additional land for forestry planting can be obtained in the adjoining townlands of Mullaghattin, Rath, Glenmore, and Grange-Irish, and in the lands running from Carlingford to Omeath, and whether he intends to acquire these lands.

Offers of land for forestry purposes in the townlands of Ballaverty, Castletowncooley and Earl's Quarter have been received by my Department. Arrangements are being made to have them inspected at an early date and when in the neighbourhood the inspector will investigate the question of land being available in the townlands of Mullaghattin, Rath, Glenmore and Grange-Irish. The Department has not so far received any offers of land in these townlands.

In the Liberties Commons area between Carlingford and Omeath my Department has inspected 3 commonages totalling 275 acres and found them suitable for forestry purposes. Preliminary investigations regarding title are now in progress. Another offer of over 80 acres in the same district has been inspected and negotiations on price have been opened with the owner.
