Vol. 163 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Schools.

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that conditions in the old school at Palmerstown are very bad due to the state of the building and serious overcrowding, and, if so, if he will state when the building of the new national school will commence.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory conditions in the present national school at Palmerstown, County Dublin. I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that they have now authorised the reverend manager's architects to accept a tender for the erection of the new school to replace the present school.

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that there is serious overcrowding in the Rush Girls' School, and, if so, if he will consider adding an extra room to the school.

I am aware that there is overcrowding in Rush Girls' National School. My Department has sanctioned a grant towards the cost of carrying out a scheme of enlargement at the school and the Commissioners of Public Works are having working drawings and a specification for the scheme prepared with a view to enabling tenders to be invited.
