Vol. 163 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Horse Flesh.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is now in a position to indicate when a decision will be announced in respect of the applications submitted to his Department for licences to export horse flesh.

The matter is still under consideration and I am not yet in a position to indicate when a decision will be taken.

Would the Minister bear in mind the fact that the granting of these licences would not only lead to the establishment of a substantial export business but would, in addition, provide a fair measure of employment and, in view of these considerations, would he urge on his colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, to endeavour to expedite a decision and to ensure that it will be a favourable one?

The Deputy should have told Deputy Dillon that when he was Minister.

These have been my views all the time.

The Deputy must not have carried much weight in the last Government.

Deputy MacEntee promised it.
