Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naas Automatic Exchange.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the new automatic exchange for Naas will be in commission, and what exchange areas Naas subscribers will then be able to ring direct.

The new exchange at Naas will be opened for service next month. Naas subscribers will be able to dial calls to one another and to subscribers connected to the present Sallins exchange which will be closed. Naas subscribers renting ordinary (i.e. non-coin box) telephones will also be able to dial calls to subscribers on Dublin (including Dún Laoghaire) and Kildare automatic exchanges. They will, in addition, be able to dial direct to the operators at ten manual exchanges near Naas and Kildare.

Will we not be able to dial Maynooth which is another automatic exchange in the same district?

The latter part of my reply states: "They will, in addition, be able to dial direct to the operators at ten manual exchanges near Naas and Kildare." The Deputy can work that one out.

Will we be able to dial direct to the subscriber?

Not at the moment.

But at a later stage, it will extend further?

It is possible.
