Vol. 164 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment for Roscommon Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a small farmer of Ballinameen, Boyle, has not yet received payment from the Land Commission for a holding which they purchased from him in January, 1956, and if, in view of this man's circumstances, he will request the Land Commission to expedite payment.

Possession of these lands was not obtained by the Land Commission until 14th March last. Since then delays in payment of compensation have not been the responsibility of the Land Commission.

Is it not a fact that the Land Commission have these lands set while the unfortunate farmer from whom the lands were acquired has not yet been paid? The Land Commission are drawing a high rent for the land that is being set, while the owner, an old man of 80, is in the position that he cannot keep the roof on the house. Would the Minister expedite payment of the money or, alternatively, allow the old man to set the land himself until such time as the title has been put in order?

Every effort is being made by the Land Commission to dispose of the land.

I hope there will be no further delay.
