The cost to the State of the election of Seanad Éireann from 1st January, 1954, to 31st October, 1957, and the costs of maintenance for the same period directly attributable to the Seanad totalled £161,000. The figure does not include any part of the cost of services shared jointly between the Dáil and Seanad. It is not necessary to apportion such costs for accounting purposes and consequently separate figures in respect of the Seanad are not available.
