Vol. 164 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Primary Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the current financial year the number of primary schools (a) in course of erection, (b) to be completed during the year, and (c) on which work will be undertaken before the end of the year.

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works (a) that there are 89 new schools in course of erection at present; (b) that 28 new schools were completed between 1st April, 1957, and the 31st October, 1957, and that while it is not possible to say exactly how many schools will be completed between the 1st November, 1957, and the 31st March, 1958, it is expected that about 30 of the 89 new schools now in course of erection will be completed during that period. (c) It is expected that contracts will be placed for the erection of about 35 other new schools between now and the end of the financial year.
