Vol. 164 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Bed Costs.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the cost per bed in each hospital erected wholly or partly out of public funds.

It is assumed that the information required is related to the capital costs incurred in providing bed accommodation.

Information on the lines requested by the Deputy is not readily available in relation to all hospitals (including voluntary institutions), the cost of which has been met either wholly or partly out of public funds. Figures are subjoined, however, in relation to the approximate cost per bed in the case of a number of hospital projects which have been completed under the post-war hospitals building programme. It is necessary to emphasise, however, that, owing to substantial differences in the factors governing cost, such as the size, functions, location, date and form of construction, etc. of the various projects, the figures given are not generally comparable with one another.
