Vol. 164 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waterford Corporation Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what proposals are before his Department for public relief schemes or any similar schemes that have been put forward by the Waterford Corporation.

The following schemes, involving a total estimated expenditure of £9,915, were submitted by Waterford Corporation to absorb the current year's grant from the Vote for Employment and Emergency Schemes:—

Scheme:

(1) Resurfacing at O'Brien Street, Ferrybank Avenue, The Glen, Meeting House Lane and Sargent's Lane.

(2) Improvements at Ballytruckle (adjacent to Pearse Park).

(3) Road and footpath improvements at Newport's Lane.

(4) Road widening at Fountain Street (north and south sides).

(5) Demolition of derelict buildings and clearance of sites at Newgate street, O'Connell Street, Carrigeen Lane, Lady Lane, Blake's Lane and Ballybricken.

Approval to the first four groups of schemes, involving a total estimated expenditure of £4,298, issued on 5th November, subject to minor amendments. A decision on the remainder of the schemes will issue shortly.

The only other proposal before my Department for relief or other schemes in Waterford City is for the expenditure of a special Road Fund grant of £5,000 on renewing defective timbers and surfacing on Waterford bridge. When further information which has been sought from the corporation is received a decision on this proposal will issue.
