Vol. 164 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification Policy.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the policy of the E.S.B. in regard to the provision under the rural electrification scheme of current for isolated areas and individual homes, which were considered uneconomic for inclusion in adjacent areas already developed.

I am informed that this problem has been under consideration by the E.S.B. from time to time but that it is unlikely that any decision can be reached in the matter until the present rural electrification programme has been completed.

Many of these individual homes would, of course, be able to obtain supply on payment of the appropriate charges.

Is the Minister aware that the charge in some of these cases is most exacting and that if something is not done immediately it will cause great disquiet among the people concerned?

The charge relates to the cost. In some cases the charge which will be required is quite considerable.
