Vol. 164 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Output of Barley.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he can estimate the total output of barley from the 1957 harvest.

On the basis of information at present available it is estimated that the total output of native barley of the 1957 harvest is approximately 400,000 tons.

Does that represent a record?

I could not exactly say whether it is an all-time record but it is quite a decent crop of barley I am glad to say.

The Minister does not know. I am glad to tell him that it is.

I am very glad to hear it and we are glad that we did speed the plough in spite of the Deputy.

It is in respect of barley sown last March and April.

I know there would not be a grain of barley or wheat, a cow or a calf in the country only for the Deputy.

The Minister is beginning to learn.
