Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Acquisitions: Questions of Title.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received suggestions to facilitate the method of deducing title on Land Commission acquisitions; and if he proposes to put those suggestions into effect.

A memorandum of proposed procedural amendments, affecting the functions of the Judicial Commissioner and Examiners of Title has been received by the Land Commission from the Incorporated Law Society. Investigation of the proposals is in hands and will be completed as soon as practicable.

Would the Minister state the date on which it was received?

I have asked the officers concerned to have the conference as soon as possible. I understand it will take place next month.

I was asking the date on which it was received?

Does the Minister not think that the Land Commission might have produced some consideration by this?

We have been doing a great deal to speed up acquisition in all phases. This is one part of a number of changes which have taken place and which will improve the general position. I think the Deputy will be satisfied when the whole of these arrangemets have been examined.

Nobody has seen much of the improvements so far.

Taking 47 cases of examination of title, the Land Commission was responsible for a total of four and one-third months out of a total of 29 months, the remainder being the responsibility of persons other than the Land Commission.

And being the responsibility of the archaic procedure which it is suggested should be amended.
