Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Requirements.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present requirement of local authority houses in Dublin City.

A comprehensive survey of housing conditions in Dublin City, undertaken by the corporation over a period of three to four years, was completed last year. The results of that survey have been examined in my Department and observations thereon have been conveyed to the corporation with a view to assisting them to determine the net programme of new dwellings requiring to be erected during the next five years. I understand that a further review of the figures undertaken by officers of the corporation has not yet been completed. Pending completion of this review and consideration of its results by me, I am not in a position to give an authoritative estimate of the present requirements.

Is the Minister able to give an estimate, authoritative or not?

Surely the Minister can give some estimate of the figure?

The question was to state the present requirements and I am not going to give any estimate.

The Minister is as civil as a dove. The Minister will be out of the Department of Local Government before he knows where he is.

There was a survey taken in 1947 and an estimate given. Surely it would be an easy matter to substract the number built since and give an estimate of the present requirements?

That is not what I was asked.

The Minister was asked to substract.
