Vol. 164 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the delay in advertising the proposed regional water supply from Fethard to Killenaule and Drangan, and if, in view of the grave necessity for water in the area, he will take immediate steps to expedite the matter.

The county council have not yet acquired the water rights, for the taking of a supply of water for this scheme.

A petition for a provisional Order authorising the county council to acquire compulsorily certain water rights was submitted on the 12th December, 1956. By reason of a legal flaw in the petition, which became evident at the local inquiry held on the 20th March, 1957, the proposal was invalidated. The petition was accordingly refused on the 30th August last. A new petition was submitted on the 5th September and the necessary inquiry will be held as soon as possible.
