Vol. 165 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offences Against the State (Amendment) Act, 1940.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the total number of persons at present interned in internment camps in the State under the Offences Against the State (Amendment) Act, 1940, and the name, address, and occupation of each person interned.

The number is 126. For particulars of those who were under detention on the 31st December last I would refer the Deputy to the return that has been furnished to the House pursuant to the provisions of Section 9 of the Offences Against the State (Amendment) Act, 1940. Further returns will be furnished in conformity with the law.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state how many persons have been (a) interned, and (b) released, since the 8th July, 1957, and how many are now interned under the provisions of the Offences Against the State (Amendment) Act, 1940.

The answers are 146, 20, and 126, respectively.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether all persons who have been interned under the Offences Against the State (Amendment) Act, 1940, have been so interned by virtue of warrants signed by him, and, if not, if he will state the number of such warrants signed by other Ministers.

All the warrants were signed by me, with the exception of seven which were signed by other Ministers.
