Vol. 165 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trawling Off Broadhaven Peninsula.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that Spanish and French trawlers are fishing regularly within the limits along the coast of the Broadhaven peninsula, and, if so, if he will arrange to have some permanent protection provided for the district, and thus safeguard the interests of local fishermen.

I am not aware that Spanish and French trawlers are fishing regularly within our exclusive fishery limits along the coast of the Broadhaven peninsula but I am bringing the matter to the notice of the Minister for Defence who controls the patrol vessels. It would be well if local people who observe any such occurrences would report them immediately to the nearest Garda Síochána station.
