Vol. 165 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distribution of Distillers' Calendar.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that copies of a calendar bearing a picture of a member of the Dáil and issued by a firm of distillers have been distributed in the United States of America by officers of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta; and if he will state whether he has communicated with Córas Tráchtála Teoranta in the matter and, if so, if he will give the terms of the communication.

I have ascertained that no copies of any calendar bearing a picture of any member of Dáil Éireann have been distributed in U.S.A. on behalf of any firm of distillers by any of the officers of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta.

I should make it clear, however, that if a firm of distillers thinks it can, by distributing the photographs of all or any of the members of Dáil Éireann increase its sales in U.S.A., that is in my opinion a good reason why it should do so.

Might I inquire whether, in order to circulate a calendar with the photograph of Deputy Briscoe, underneath which is written "Dr. Robert Briscoe,, T.D., T.C., P.C.; Give every man his Dew; D. E. Williams, Ltd., Tullamore——"

I said that no such calendar was distributed by Córas Tráchtála.

Here is the calendar and look at the photograph.

It is an excellent likeness.

There is a rule that there shall be no exhibitions of——

May I ask, in the event of this calendar being circulated from the offices of Córas Tráchtála in the United States, who pays for the postage and distribution of the calendar?

I presume that the question is inspired by jealousy.

Question No. 10.

Up John Locke.
