No application has been received in my Department since June, 1957. On that occasion it was suggested to the council that they should again investigate the possibility of borrowing from sources other than the Local Loans Fund. In view of the heavy commitments on the fund and the necessity for conserving it for the most essential works, I consider that the council should use their best endeavours to follow the advice then given to them. Any assistance which they may ask me to give them in that direction will be readily forthcoming.
