Vol. 166 No. 1

Written Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Clare Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) whether the Land Commission has acquired the Russell estate, Cratloe, County Clare, and, if so, the area involved, (2) if it has been decided to distribute the lands, to what category allocations will be made, (3) whether uneconomic holders in the area will be considered and (4) whether migrants are to be given portion of the lands and, if so, for what reasons, and the areas from which they will be migrating.

Possession of this estate, comprising 197 acres, was obtained by the Land Commission in March, 1957. An area of 46 acres was allotted amongst local smallholders last month. Final arrangements for the disposal of the balance of the estate have not yet been made but the claims of all eligible applicants, including any other uneconomic holders in the area, will be fully considered before allotment takes place.
