Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Mental Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total amount of money being made available by way of grant towards the cost of proposed new buildings at Cork Mental Hospital.

I regret that I am not yet in a position to give a decision on the amount of money which will be made available by way of grant from the Hospitals' Trust Fund towards the cost of schemes for new buildings proposed by the Cork Mental Hospital Joint Board. I have taken particular note of the position which obtains in the case of the Cork Mental Hospital and I shall communicate with the Joint Mental Hospital Board immediately a decision has been reached on the projects they have submitted for consideration.

In this connection, I think it desirable that I should repeat that the amount of money which will be available in the Hospitals' Trust Fund, after provision has been made for inescapable commitments, will fall very far short of the amount required to meet all the claims which have been submitted in respect of the various hospital building projects at present before my Department.
