Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Principal of Booterstown School.

asked the Minister for Education if he has considered the letter from the General Secretary of the I.N.T.O. published in the daily papers on 1st March, 1958, with reference to the appointment of a female principal to Booterstown Protestant National School; whether he has communicated with the organisation in regard to it; and if he has any further statement to make.

I have seen the letter referred to by the Deputy. I have not communicated with the I.N.T.O. in regard to it. I had already replied to a previous letter addressed to me by that organisation. The position in relation to the case in question is as explained in my reply to the Deputy of the 27th February, 1958, and I am satisfied that no further statement from me is called for.

Does the Minister not agree that the I.N.T.O. are right in their statement?

The I.N.T.O. are not right. The statement contains certain assertions which are not true and some implications which I deprecate. I can assure the Deputy and the writer of that letter that the facts as conveyed in my reply to him of last week are true, and I would not attempt to put before the House information which was not true.
