Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condemned National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of national schools that have been condemned by medical officers of local authorities as unfit for use.

I regret that medical officers' reports are not furnished to my Department in such a manner as would enable me to give the Deputy the information which he seeks.

The Commissioners of Public Works are my Department's technical advisers on the question of the need for replacing existing schools by new schools. I can assure the Deputy that in every case where a medical officer reports adversely on school premises and the matter is not already receiving attention, the Commissioners of Public Works are asked for their advice as to the course of action which should be taken.
