Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consumption of Creamery Butter and Magarine.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the estimated domestic consumption of creamery butter in Ireland (a) in each year from 1947 to 1957, inclusive, and (b) for the six months 1st July to 31st December, 1957, with the corresponding figures for the same period in 1956 and 1955.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information.

Following is the statement:—

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the estimated quantities of creamery butter and margarine consumed as such per head of the population in the years 1956 and 1957.

The average consumption as such of creamery butter per head of the population is estimated at 29.6 lb. in 1956 and 27.2 lb. in 1957. The corresponding figures for margarine were 4.8 lb. in 1956 and 5.1 lb. in 1957. The estimates for 1957 are provisional and subject to revision.
