Vol. 166 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development Work on Cork Dwellings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the delay in issuing sanction to Cork Corporation for the carrying out of development work for 143 dwellings at Closes; and whether he is aware that, arising out of this delay, there is a danger of a serious set back in the corporation's house building programme and, if so, whether he will now expedite sanction.

Consideration of the development plan submitted by the Cork Corporation for a scheme of 141 dwellings at Closes is being deferred pending the submission by the corporation of details relating to their slum clearance programme which were requested on 15th February last and are still awaited.

I understand that the corporation have about 400 houses in progress at present. Development or construction plans relating to a further 621 dwellings have been approved by my Department. In these circumstances I do not agree that there is a danger of a serious set back in the corporation's building programme arising from the need for further examination of the Closes scheme.
