Vol. 166 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Operation of Pools.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that Section 28 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1956, is being persistently violated by certain Dublin operated pools, both in regard to the maximum prize fund and in the matter of advertising, and that such tactics are severely affecting provincial pools whose funds are badly needed to promote important and necessary building projects and, if so, if he will take action in the matter.

I am not so aware, but if the Deputy brings any specific case to my notice, I shall have the matter investigated.

These prizes in excess of the specified amount are published openly in newspapers and I wonder that the Department could not be aware of that. There is no secrecy about it; it is done quite openly. Both the prize money and the advertising sections of the Act are contravened quite openly.
