Vol. 166 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duty on Prams.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the rate of duty and the amounts collected in respect of foreign made prams imported during each of the years 1955, 1956 and 1957, giving separate particulars in respect of prams which were (1) assembled in full and (2) imported for re-assembly here.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total number and value of foreign made prams imported during each of the years 1955, 1956 and 1957, giving separate particulars in respect of prams which were (i) assembled in full and (ii) imported for re-assembly here.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions numbered 16 and 17 together.

Prams and parts of prams, including go-cars, are liable to customs duty at the rate of 75 per cent. ad valorem (full rate) or 50 per cent. (preferential) under Tariff Reference No. 261.

The imports of prams, whether assembled or unassembled, are recorded under the one heading of "prams and go-cars" and it is not possible, without undue expenditure of time and labour, to break down the import statistics as between prams and go-cars nor as between assembled and unassembled articles.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a tabular statement showing the quantity and value of prams (including go-cars) imported and the receipts of duty under Tariff Reference No. 261 in each of the years 1955, 1956 and 1957.

Following is the statement:—
