Vol. 166 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bogus Telephone Calls.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received any complaints to the effect that the bogus telephone call campaign is interfering with the use of the telephone system by the public and resulting in a loss of revenue; what steps he proposes to take; and if he will consult with the Garda Síochána in the matter.

I have received no complaints to the effect mentioned, but there have been complaints by particular subscribers of interference with their telephone service.

The making of bogus telephone calls is a criminal offence and the Deputy may be assured that the closest co-operation exists between my Department and the Garda authorities in taking all appropriate measures for the enforcement of the law in this respect.
