asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the requirements of his Department for the coming financial year with regard to clothing, uniforms, etc.; what contracts have been entered into between his Department and a clothing firm (name supplied) in the current financial year and the details of such contracts; and when such contracts, if any, will be advertised.

The full clothing requirements of my Department for the coming financial year have not yet been determined. The following are the approximate quantities of the various types of garments which it is estimated will be required:—

Description

Number of Garments

Woollen Outer Garments

36,000

Protective Clothing

11,000

Minor Items

105,000

My Department does not enter into contracts for the supply of clothing, such supplies being obtained through the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.
