Vol. 167 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Import Levies and Customs Duties.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of special import levy which would not have been paid in the year 1957-58 if the amendments to the levy Orders made in April, 1958, had been in operation during that year; and what additional amount of customs duty would have been likewise so collected.

If the amendments to the Special Import Levies and Customs Duties made by the Imposition of Duties (No.28) (Special Import Levies and Customs Duties) Order, 1958, with effect from the 10th instant had been in operation during the financial year 1957-58, it is estimated that the receipts from the Special Import Levies in that year would have been reduced by approximately £650,000 while the ordinary customs revenue would have been increased by about £600,000.
