Vol. 167 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in South Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give an assurance that the overall level of forestry planting in South Galway will be maintained for the year 1958-59; and if he will furnish details of the 1957-58 programme and the 1958-59 provisional programme for the following forests in the South Galway area: Athenry, Ballinasloe, Castledaly, Gort, Kiltulla, Loughrea, Portumna, Woodford and Woodlawn.

I am pleased to be able to inform the Deputy that the overall level of planting in South Galway in 1958-59 will be substantially higher than last year. It is intended to plant a total of 1,270 acres next year compared with 755 acres in the planting season just ended.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report a table showing details of the 1957-58 planting programme and of the provisional programme for 1958-59 for the forests in the South Galway area, as requested by the Deputy.
