Vol. 167 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearrangement of Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of holdings rearranged during the last year and the number of holdings (not including additional land) used in the rearrangement.

Provisional returns for the year ended 31st March, 1958, indicate that about 420 holdings were rearranged last year.

Rearrangement generally involves the utilisation of additional untenanted land which the Land Commission obtain through the process of acquisition, resumption or migration. However, a small proportion of rearrangement is carried out on the basis of equivalent exchanges involving no additional land. If the Deputy is referring to the latter in the second part of the question, the answer is 57.
