Vol. 167 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Specialist Cancer Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total amount paid in respect of (a) capital and (b) current requirements to the specialist cancer hospitals from 1948-49 to the nearest available date.

I assume that the question relates to grants from the Hospitals' Trust Fund towards the cost of capital works and towards the revenue deficits of the specialist cancer hospitals. The total amounts so paid, in the period from 1st April, 1948, to 31st March, 1958, are £849,924 in respect of capital works, and £466,531 in respect of revenue deficits.

In addition to the foregoing amounts paid, as indicated, from the Hospitals' Trust Fund, it is estimated that health authorities in the period paid to the hospitals concerned, in respect of patients sent in by them for treatment, a sum of well over £500,000.
