Vol. 167 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Poor Law Valuation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total poor law valuation current in each rateable local authority area in each of the past five years as apportioned between (a) agricultural holdings (buildings and lands) and (b) other property, together with the relevant rate in the pound in each area.

The records available regarding valuations do not permit of their classification on the lines mentioned by the Deputy. The annual returns of local taxation, which are presented to the Oireachtas before publication, classify valuations under (a) land, (b) buildings and (c) railways, fisheries, tolls, half-rents, etc., for each rating area. I would refer the Deputy to these returns for the three years, 1953-54 to 1955-56 inclusive. The figures for the years 1956-57 and 1957 58 are being compiled and will be furnished to the Deputy when ready.

The Deputy's query about the rate in the pound in each area is one for the Minister for Local Government, but I may add that this information also is published in the returns of local taxation.
