Vol. 168 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Vegetables.

Mr. Burke

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that exporters of vegetables from the Port of Dublin are complaining about the very high rates charged by the cross-Channel shipping companies, and that these rates make the export of such vegetables to England and Scotland uneconomical; and if he will have the position examined.

I have no information about the specific complaints to which the question refers

The level of shipping freight rates is not subject to my control. These rates, however, are at present the subject of a public inquiry and it would be open to exporters of vegetables, should they so desire, to make a submission to the tribunal.
