Vol. 168 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co-operation with Six Countries.

asked the Taoiseach whether, in view of his statement in Seanad Éireann on 29th January, 1958, that an examination by the various Ministers of State as to the possibility of co-operation in economic, social and cultural matters with the Six Counties could be carried out, he will state (a) whether such an examination has been started or carried out and (b) the results of such examination.

It has not been considered necessary to give any specific instructions or to make any special arrangements for the examination of possibilities of co-operation with the Six Counties in economic, social and cultural matters. The position is that, in the normal course of their duties, the several Departments concerned with such matters have, from time to time, occasion to consider questions of co-operation with the corresponding Departments in the Six Counties. They are fully alive to the importance, in the common interest, of that co-operation. Nothing new has emerged in that regard since the date of my statement in Seanad Éireann.
