Vol. 168 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the number of visitors to Galway during the Easter, Whit and August bank holidays, he will arrange for a partial opening of the G.P.O. at Galway at these periods.

Opening the Head Post Office at Galway even for a short period at the holiday week-ends mentioned by the Deputy would not be warranted. When, previously, the office was open for counter business between 9 and 10.30 a.m. on Sundays and bank holidays, including those in question, the business offering was negligible.

Is the Minister aware that there is quite sufficient business, say, around the August bank holiday to justify opening at least on the August bank holiday?

The experience when this was in operation before was that there was practically no business done on these occasions.
