Vol. 168 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commission on Income Taxation.

asked the Minister for Finance what progress has been made to date by the Commission on Income Taxation.

I understand that the commission has received and is considering many representations and memoranda from individuals, societies and organisations. Memoranda from some important representative bodies are still awaited.

I am also informed that the commission has been giving particular attention to the problems associated with the method of collection of tax payable by employees and may be able to furnish an interim report on this subject.

Is the Minister aware that our present income-tax code is based on the British code? Britain is a highly industrialised country and their methods should not be operated in this country.
