Vol. 169 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sales of Irish Whiskey at Shannon.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the annual amount of sales of Irish whiskey in Shannon airport in the past two years.

Sales of Irish whiskey at Shannon airport amounted to £64,978 in the year ended 30th April, 1958, and to £55,312 in the year ended 30th April, 1957. Included in these totals were sales of duty-free whiskey for export amounting to £57,161 and £46,999, respectively.

Does the Minister consider that these duty-free sales are conducive to greater exports of whiskey?

I cannot imagine anybody buying Irish whiskey at Shannon not wanting to repeat the experience.

Would the Minister indicate if the wider demand for Irish whiskey could be met by the distilleries?
