Vol. 170 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fees or Emoluments of Directors of Certain Companies.

asked the Minister for Finance whether there has been any alteration in the fees or emoluments payable since the 20th March, 1958, to any director of any such board or company as is mentioned in a reply by him of 12th June, 1958; and, if so, if he will state full particulars thereof.

The only alteration since 20th March, 1958, in the remuneration of directors of any of the bodies referred to was an increase from £800 to £1,200 per annum with effect from 1st July, 1958, in the remuneration of the chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation Limited. The increased remuneration covers a day-by-day attention on his part to the affairs of the corporation.

Is that in accordance with the national agreement of 10/-?

Would the Minister be good enough to say why it was thought necessary to increase this fee by £400 as of the 1st July, 1958? Is not the work of this post the same now as it was when the Minister took office in March, 1957? Why was the change made on the 1st July, 1958?

The work has been the same up to the 1st July, 1958——

But the man is not.

No, that is not the point. The Deputy looks at these things subjectively but I look at them objectively. The Minister for Agriculture and myself have had conversations about the future of this organisation and I hope we shall be able to make an announcement in the course of the next few months.

A retired bank manager.

They have no shame.
