Vol. 170 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Height Requirements for Mental Hospital Nurses.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will consider lowering the minimum height requirements for probationer nurses seeking permanent appointments as nurses in mental hospitals.

The minimum height requirements for candidates for the offices of attendant (male and female) in district mental hospitals are at present under examination in my Department.

Does the Minister hope to be able to announce an early decision?

I am always hopeful in a matter of that sort.

It would be too much to expect any precision from the Minister for Health. Could he make even a rough guess?

I differ from the Deputy. I am very careful about making promises.

Why do you not get cracking, so?

Am I to understand from what the Minister said that he is very careful about making promises and, if so, is that due to the fact that the manner in which he has repudiated his election promises is having an effect on his conscience?

I would have great pleasure in sending Deputy Norton a copy of my election address in which I said that I would make no promises.

Now we know. This throws a flood of light.

God help the nurses.
